Acceptable Use Policy

This policy forms part of our Terms of Service.
Debut generates synthetic video: images, footage, voices and music that look and sound real. That makes some uses genuinely harmful, and this policy is where we draw the line.
It applies to everything you do with the Service — what you upload, what you prompt, what you generate, and what you do with the result. A serious breach can cost you your account immediately and without notice, and the worst of it we report to the authorities. For anything else we will tell you and give you a chance to put it right.

What you must not do
1. Anything involving minors
Never generate, upload, request or distribute sexual or sexualised content involving a minor, or content that sexualises a person who appears to be a minor, whether real or generated. Never use the Service to facilitate, depict or promote the abuse or exploitation of children.
This is absolute, it has no exception for fiction, art or research, and we report it.
2. Non-consensual intimate imagery
Do not generate or upload sexual or intimate imagery of a real, identifiable person without their explicit, documented consent — including by placing someone’s face or body into sexual content.
3. Impersonating a real person
Do not use the Service to depict a real, identifiable person — their face, body, voice or distinctive likeness — without their explicit, documented consent. In particular, do not:
generate a person’s voice or likeness to make them appear to say or do something they did not;
use a synthetic likeness to take action in someone’s name, to endorse something, or to obtain money, credentials or access;
upload photographs, footage or recordings of another person without their permission.
This covers rights of publicity, personality rights and, in France, the droit à l’image (Article 9 of the Civil Code).
You may of course depict yourself, people who have given you documented consent, and public figures in contexts that are clearly and unmistakably satire, commentary or parody — provided you comply with sections 4 and 11 and with local law.
4. Political manipulation and elections
Do not generate synthetic media of political candidates, elected officials or public authorities that could be mistaken for genuine. Do not create content designed to influence an election, misinform voters about how, when or whether to vote, or misrepresent the position of a party or candidate. Do not use the Service for covert political campaigning.
5. Fraud and deception
Do not use the Service for scams, phishing, fake endorsements, fake testimonials, fake news reports, financial or investment deception, or any deceptive commercial practice. Do not present generated footage as authentic documentary evidence of a real event.
6. Infringing other people’s rights
Do not upload, prompt for, or generate content that infringes copyright, trade marks, design rights, trade secrets, privacy or personality rights. That includes reproducing protected characters, brands, logos or footage, and includes uploading material you do not have the rights to use.
7. Harassment, hate and violence
Do not generate content that harasses, bullies, threatens or defames a person; that attacks or degrades people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation; or that incites, glorifies or provides instructions for violence, terrorism or self-harm.
8. Illegal goods, services and activity
Do not use the Service to advertise or promote illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, stolen data, sexual services, or any other unlawful product or activity, or to plan or facilitate a crime.
9. Content that is illegal where you are
Do not use the Service for anything unlawful in your country or in any country where you publish the result. You are responsible for knowing what that is.
10. Attacking or gaming the Service
Do not attempt to circumvent our safety measures, our model providers’ safety filters, our credit metering, or our rate and usage limits. Do not probe, scan, overload or attack our infrastructure. Do not scrape the Service, automate access outside a documented API, resell access, or use the Service to build a competing product or to train a competing model.
11. Passing off synthetic media as real
Where you publish content made with the Service in a context where a viewer could reasonably take it for a real recording of real people or real events, say that it is artificially generated. Where the law requires that disclosure — including under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, the EU AI Act — meeting it is your responsibility. Do not remove or falsify provenance or content-credentials metadata we embed in output.
How we enforce this
We do not review what you generate before you generate it. Our model providers apply their own filters, which may refuse a generation independently of us.
When we learn of a possible breach — from a report or from one of our providers — we investigate, which may mean a person looking at the project concerned (see the Privacy Policy). Depending on what we find, we may:
remove or disable access to the content;
suspend or terminate your account, immediately where the breach is serious or ongoing;
keep evidence of the breach; and
report it to the police or to the relevant authority, which we will always do for content involving minors.
We will tell you what we have done and why, unless the law prevents us. You can contest any decision by replying to hello@debut.video, and we will look at it again. If we got it wrong, we will restore your account.
Where an account is terminated for a serious breach, unspent credits are not refunded.
Reporting a problem
To report content made with Debut that breaches this policy, infringes your rights, or is unlawful, write to hello@debut.video with a description of the content, where you found it, and why you are reporting it. We review every complete report. The procedure for copyright and illegal-content notices is in section 17 of the Terms of Service.
